Any vehicle has the potential to get into a life threatening accident, but depending upon the type of vehicle you drive and who manufacturers it, you may or may not be getting the safest kind of car for your money. It is not hard to select a vehicle that has the most up to date versatile safety equipment, and why choose anything else? Volvo has always been known for its unique safety features. In fact, Volvo has reached numerous safety milestones over the years, dating all the way back to its early days. For example, in 1944, a safety cage was introduced into some vehicles. In 1966, vehicles became equipped with a twin-circuit triangular (three wheel) backup braking system. In 1972 we saw three point seat belts being placed in the rear for traveling passengers, and in 1984, ABS anti-locking brakes were introduced. More recent safety milestones include the PCC or Personal Car Communicator, Driver Alert system, and Pedestrian Safety feature introduced for 2010 vehicles.

Every driver wants to at least have the feeling that he or she may be somewhat safer if an accident were to occur. However, having a good feeling about a vehicle's safety features and actually knowing that your vehicle is equipped with the most up to date safety features, are two entirely different concepts. It is one thing to feel good about your vehicle before you hit the road, but another thing that if an accident were to take place, what are the chances that you and your occupants will survive such a crash? Current Volvo models are among some of the best in the market, when it comes to safety features. Take the Volvo XC90 for example. This vehicle is equipped with electronic stability control, an adjustable upper front belt, 4-Wheel ABS, side and head airbags, and a tire pressure monitor. Crash test ratings for this vehicle also get a five star rating and a four star rollover resistance rating.

2010 Volvo car models also have many other safety features not touched upon yet. Models that are about to hit the streets now have the latest and most innovative safety features available to every driver. In addition to some safety features already mentioned, current and new release models are also equipped with daytime running lights, an energy management feature, trunk release, child seat lower anchorage, and a head restraint that is dynamic in nature. The Volvo V30 however, may be one of the best models with some of the highest safety ratings in crash test performances. This is a two-door vehicle, and crash tests differ for these kinds of vehicles in comparison with four door models. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does a front and side crash test, along with a third test to find out how well a vehicle is able to seat people and how well the vehicle's head restraints protect people from potentially life threatening neck injuries during a crash. The V30 performed very well when these specific tests were carried out to find out the extent of the vehicle's overall safety.
